Cook AI: A Kitchen Assistant That Knows Your Recipes
5 min read
Generic AI chatbots can talk about cooking, but they do not know what is in your recipe library, what you cooked last month, or that you keep kosher and hate cilantro. Cook AI does — it is the assistant built into Cooking Together, and its defining trait is context: your recipes, your taste profile, your cooking history.
Open it from the + button on the Home or My Recipes screen. Here is what it is actually good at.
Search your collection like you would ask a person
"Find me a quick pasta dish." "What can I make with chicken and rice?" "Which of my recipes has the most protein?" Cook AI searches your recipes — the ones you wrote, imported, and saved — not the open internet. The more your library grows, the more this feels like asking a librarian who has read everything you own.
In My Recipes you can also point it at a single group: tap the AI icon on a recipe group to search within just that collection.
Create a recipe from nothing
Ask it to "create a chocolate lava cake recipe" and it generates a complete recipe — ingredients, steps, servings — shaped by your taste profile, that you can save straight into your library and cook like any other. It is the fastest path from a craving with no recipe to a recipe.
Show it photos
Attach up to three photos to a message. Photograph the contents of your fridge and ask what you can make; photograph a dish and ask what it is; photograph a plate and ask about the calories. Photos plus your recipe library is a genuinely useful combination — "what can I make with these?" gets answered with dishes you already know how to find.
Menus, techniques, and the app itself
Some of the highest-value questions are not searches at all:
- "Hosting 8 for dinner — suggest a menu" plans the whole evening.
- "Suggest a Mediterranean dinner for 4" gives a coherent meal, not a list.
- "How do I temper chocolate?" answers technique questions properly.
- "How do I make a recipe private?" — it knows how the app works and answers help questions too.
The suggestion pills
Below the input you will see quick-action pills that change over time. They are personalized — drawn from your taste profile, your cooking history, and the season — so the suggestions drift toward the way you actually cook. Tapping one is the zero-typing way in.
Frequently asked questions
How is this different from Ask AI on a recipe?
Ask AI is scoped to the single recipe you are viewing — substitutions, doneness, scaling for that dish. Cook AI is the open-ended assistant across your whole collection and beyond. They complement each other.
Does it respect my dietary restrictions?
Yes — your taste profile (Settings → Food Preferences) informs its answers, from search results to generated recipes.
What does it cost?
Cook AI shares the monthly AI allowance on the free plan, with a higher allowance on premium.
